Setting the Shifter Pawl

Previous | Home | Next
For the final installation of the gearset, one must lift the shifter pawl before the set is pushed home.  The gearset will push to its limit without the pawl lifted, but then you won't be able to lift it later to install the shift drum.  In that case, you'll have to pull the gears out again.  Also, notice that the return spring is on the eccentric that is protruding through the transmission case.  If you miss this, no problem; the eccentric can be withdrawn and put back in later.
