Testing the TransmissionPrevious | Home | NextI've slipped the shift arm onto the shaft and while rotating the transmission input shaft by hand, I ran through the gears. It seemed harder than it should have felt to spin the shaft; and also harder to flip between gears. But I think that's normal. We'll see when I get it all together. I installed the pillow block bolts (the new ones included with the DD-6 with a little bit of blue Loctite on the threads. Then, I poured a more oil onto the mechanism, installed a new gasket on top, and installed the top cover and bolts with blue Loctite. It should be noted here during assembly that before installing any bolts into holes, that the holes should be cleaned of any oil using brake cleaner spray and then blown out with compressed air for two reasons: 1. Oil in the hole can't compress so it will result in either stripped threads, broken bolts, or punched-out hole bottoms; all of which are serious. 2. Loctite will not stick to
oily threads so cleaning thoroughly with brake cleaner and blowing out
with compressed air will clean the threads so that the Loctite can do
its job. |
